Firefox is a web browser project that came from the open sourcing of the Netscape Navigator. During the development of Mozilla it was decided to make a stripped down web browser that would be small fast loading and extendible.

During it's early development Firefox went hrough a series of name changes as each one that was picked was copyrighted.
XUL Edit
XUL is a combination of XML and javascript used to create the User interface and extensions to firefox and thunderbird and can also be used to create stand-alone applications.
