Android is an operating system designed by Google primarily for touchscreen mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers. Android was built from the ground-up to enable developers to create compelling mobile applications that take full advantage of all a handset has to offer.

Google's propriety applications, including Google play store are not part of the Android OS, but can be packaged with mobile handsets to give customers easy access to Google services.
